University Chorale performs a collaborative concert with Windsong, Cleveland's Feminist Chorus.
This performance is part of the CWRU Music Concert Series. These events are free and open to the public. Can't be with us in person? No problem! View the livestream channel at the provided link on concert day
This first rehearsal will have an extra gathering time from 3:30-4:30 to meet new members, hand out music, socialize and listen to a recording of our last concert, Regenerations! Typical rehearsals will be from 4:30-6:45.
Windsong, Cleveland’s Feminist Chorus, is entering our 43rd year of giving people a voice and amplifying unheard voices through music. This year we formally began the work of addressing barriers to equity and inclusion, especially racial and ethnic diversity within our group and its impact on our communities.
Using songs primarily from the Justice Choir Songbook (www.justicechoir.org) and other sources we will be holding a community sing out, on Saturday, October 22, 2022 from 4:00-6:00 PM that is free to the public, located at CSU's Waetjen Auditorium at 2121 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44115.
We will sing songs about gender, race, immigrant status, sexual orientation, and more. Windsong's Artistic Director, Jessica Steuver, will lead a group of partnering directors in teaching our audience these songs, giving first-hand experience and a list of resources for materials to take away with them. Finally, we will be commissioning spoken word artists to contribute introductions to some of the performed songs.
The Sing Out for Justice will include pieces that allow for audience engagement and participation making it a powerful experience that will foster community and connection. Membership in a chorus is not required to participate in this event. This is a free and open to the public community sing out. We will be making music together, and learning justice songs so all participants leave filled with songs they can use in their personal work for inclusion and equity.
Masks will be optional but may change following CDC guidance and CSU policies.
This is a free event funded by Cuyahoga Arts and Culture. Please register to attend by clicking the Sing Out Registration button below.
